Championship Series
October 8th, 2029: The ALCS starts today with the Orioles hosting the Mariners. A wild 9th inning gave the Mariners the 6-3 series opening win as they stay perfect this postseaon. Sergio Barreto was excellent, 7 innings with just 1 hit, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts in a no decision. His counterpart Juan Medina went 6 with 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Orioles RF Benni Vogl was 2-for-4 with a double and two run homer in the 8th.
October 9th, 2029: Historic Wrigley Field was the site for Game 1 of the NLCS as Dursun Erbakan (7-8, 3.39 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) made his first start of the postseason against former Marlin Jake Florence (12-6, 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP: 0-0, 4.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). We looked pitiful and overmatched, as the Cubs took the opener 7-1...
Erbakan didn't have his control, 3.1 innings with a hit, 3 runs, 5 walks, and 3 strikeout. C.J. LaFever tossed 1.1 innings with 2 htis, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Joe Kramer went 0.2 innings with 4 hits, a run, and a strikeout. Luis Alcantra allowed a run in 2 innings with 2 hits and 3 strikeouts.
Juan Simental was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4 with a double. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a walk. Mac Horvath was 1-for-1 with a walk.
Seattle kept rolling with a 5-3 win to take a 2-0 lead on the road. Orioles starter Sergio Garza was at fault, 6 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, and 6 strikeouts.
October 10th, 2029: We looked to even the series up with Devon Peterson (11-10, 3.93 ERA, 1.57 WHIP; 0-1, 0.00 ERA, 0.86 WHIP) facing Gabe Hines (13-4, 2.89 ERA, 1.06 WHIP; 1-0, 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP). Peterson continued his solid postseason and we shut them out 3-0.
Chad Scoles left with hamstring soreness, and will be DTD for 6 days...
He wasn't as great as last game, but he went 5.2 innings with 8 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. LaFever, Alcantra, and Scoles earned holds. Scoles tossed 1.2 innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts before giving it up to Gene Hall, who got a strikeout to end the game.
Chris Reid was 1-for-1 with a solo homer, sac-fly, and 2 walks. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a steal and run scored. Juan Simental was 1-for-4 with a steal. Jon Reid was 1-for-4 with a triple.
October 11th, 2029: Well, I guess the Giants really wanted Devan Watts, so they signed him to a 2-year, $5.8 million per year deal. I critisized the trade, but I guess they had a plan for it after all.
Just the AL today, as the Mariners looked to take 1 step closer to the World Series. It was a tight one, but the hosts edged Baltimore 6-5 to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Sean Foote was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI in the win, while both Josh Shuler (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) and Beni Vogl (3-3, 2B, HR, RBI, R) were excellent in a losing effort.
October 12th, 2029: Three home games, three wins? Marlins park was the place to be as a pair of red-hot pitchers and former teammates C.J. Jorgensen (13-9, 3.87 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) and Jorge Flores (14-4, 2.57 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) squared off. The crowd was hectic and obnoxious, as the Cuban faithful gave Flores the Luis Marrero treatment. It didn't bother "Beer Barrel" as the he and the Cubs topped us 4-1.
Jorgensen went 4.2 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, and 7 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever allowed a run in 1.1 innings with 2 hits and a walk.
Jackson Miller was 3-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jon Reid was 2-for-4 with a double. Daylen Lile was 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Juan Simental was 1-for-4.
The Mariners look really scary, as they swept right through the Orioles. It was a dominating 6-1 win for the hosts, as they have been unstoppable in the postseason. Janisel Rivera continues his tear, 4-for-5 with a double, homer, and 2 runs scored.
Speaking of Marrero, I did a search of him, and learned he's becoming a pitching coach. I'll have to keep him in the back of my mind, considering we ended his career and all...
October 13th, 2029: With the ALCS already over, all the focus was on our game. Pat Saitta (13-7, 3.62 ERA, 1.18 WHIP; 0-0, 4.76 ERA, 1.76 WHIP) took on Graeme Stinson (8-5, 3.40 ERA, 1.29 WHIP; 0-0, 4.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP). It took 10 innings to declare a winner, but Juan Simental hit a walk-off solo shot off former Marlin Jorge Moya to even the series with a 7-6 win.
Saitta went 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever allowed 2 hits and 2 runs in 0.2 innings with a strikeout. Chad Scoles tossed 2 innings with 4 strikeouts. Hamstring soreness who?
I also don't think it's possible to realize how valuable Simental was today, a perfect 5-for-5 with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, a double, and the walk off homer. Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, walk, and double. Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI. Jon Reid was 2-for-3 with a sac-fly and run scored. Noah Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.
October 14th, 2029: We looked to take a lead back to Chicago with Dursun Erbakan (7-8, 3.39 ERA, 1.10 WHIP; 0-1, 8.10 ERA, 1.80 WHIP) taking on Jake Florence (12-6, 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP; 1-0, 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) in a rematch of Game 1. The result wasn't exactly the same, but the Cubs edged us 6-4 and were a game away from getting swept by the Mariners in the World Series.
Add insult to injury, reliever Miguel Romero hit Juan Ramirez in the face, and he'll be day-to-day for a week with blurred vision. It was the 2nd batter Romero hit in the game... I swear he's one injury from going from Iron Man all the way down to Fragile...
Erbakan was slightly better today, 4 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Steve Hudson went 0.2 innings with ahit, run, and 2 walks. Joe Kramer allowed 3 hits and 2 runs with 2 walks in 0.2 innings.
Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored, RBI, and 2 doubles. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a walk and solo homer. Jon Reid was 1-for-3 with a RBI and walk. Chris Reid was 1-for-4 with a walk. Erbakan was 1-for-.
October 15ht, 2029: Some fun math for the off day: I have $10,985,000 to spend on extensions, and 6 Free Agents to delegate that amount to. All 6 want $20 million or more now (more then everyone on the roster except Chad Scoles) and I can give them each contracts equivilant to C.J. LaFever, a long relieber in his first year of arbitration. Seems easy right?
October 16th, 2029: Well, this could be it... Devon Peterson (11-10, 3.93 ERA, 1.57 WHIP; 1-1, 0.00 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) takes on Gabe Hines (13-5, 2.89 ERA, 1.06 WHIP; 1-1, 1.35 ERA, 0.75 WHIP) in game six. We'll live to fight another day, as we edged the hosts 6-3 to force game 7.
Peterson was excellent, 7 innings with 4 hits, a run, and 8 strikeouts. He was also 1-for-3, so he's basically the postseason MVP. Chad Scoles tossed 1.1 innings with a hir, run, and 2 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever allowed a homer to the only batter he faced.
Jarred Kelenic was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 homers, 3 RBI's, and a walk. Isaac Nunez was 3-for-4 with 2 runs and a solo homer. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and steal. Juan Simental was 1-for-4 with a walk, run scored, and steal.
October 17th, 2029: Alright, here we go! Game 7 baby! C.J. Jorgensen (13-9, 3.87 ERA, 1.16 WHIP; 1-1, 3.38 ERA, 1.06 WHIP) took on Jorge Flores (14-4, 2.57 ERA, 0.85 WHIP; 2-0, 1.86 ERA, 0.83 WHIP) in a winner-takes-all game. More Marrero tratment for Flores, but we couldn't get under his thick skin. Tied at 1 in the 9th, Tyler Freeman had a pinch hit RBI single off Joe Kramer to send the Cubs to the Series. WHY WAS KRAMER PITCHING IN THE 9TH!?!?!?!!?!?!
Man I should've left Yearick in over him...
C.J. went 5.1 innings with 7 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Kramer was charged with a hit, walk, and run in 0.1 innings.
Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with a solo homer. Jackson Miller was 1-for-3. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with a double.
Well, this was our year... Next year will be a lot tougher with all the roster changes, but eventually we'll get that elusive 2nd/4th title...
