Free Agency Pt. 1
November 20th, 2029: The Free Agents file today, and here's the top 10!
RHP Chad Brandenburg
3B Buddy Kennedy
LHP Cullen Dana
CF Billy Williamson
SS Isaac Nunez
3B Nick Senzel
1B Carlos Correa
LHP Sergio Barreto
RHP Colten Panaranto
RHP Josh Brown
2 of those 10 are 2029 Marlins, with a third Billy Williamson, a former Marlin.
And I have -$33,760,000 to spend...
Thanks Ignacio and Jarred...
The rotation and pen look good, but I could use a boost in the infield. I'll see what I'll be able to do with the limited funds, but don't expect too much. Worst thing is, there are a lot of actually good Free Agents available.
November 24th, 2029: A little trade action, with the Brewers acquiring RHP Aaron W. Brown and cash from the Senators for LHP Alfredo Crivelli, CF Gilberto Segarra, and 1B Ron Enloe. I like this trade for the Sens, but it's not bad for Milwaukee.
The Rays sent cash and RHP Jack DeGroat to the Angels for RHP Mike Barber and SS Jim Hallett. It's an even enough deal.
November 25th, 2029: I submitted my Hall of Fame Ballot:
LF Ryan Braun
2B Robinson Cano
SP Felix Hernandez
SP Clayton Kershaw
RF Nick Markakis
C Buster Posey
CL Francisco Rodriguez
SP Max Scherzer
SP Justin Verlander
1B Joey Votto
There were at least three other players I wanted to vote too.
More trade action, with the Senators sending RHP Jared Jackson and cash to the Phillies for 2B Shamel Penland. I like this deal a lot for Philly.
November 26th, 2029: I made a blockbuster with the Blue Jays, acquiring star 3B Fernando Tatis Jr. (100% retained) and RHP Shiro Hiraki for 3B Eric Kisela and RHP Michael Baumann.
Tatis, 30, is a 4* who's going to be a Free Agent at the end of the season. He's a top quality hitter and defender with solid speed. He's got a career .287/.354/.505 hitter with 275 homers and 856 RBI's to go with 130 steals. He gives us a great middle of the order hitter and is beloved in the clubhouse.
Hiraki, 27, is a 4/4.5* reliever who came over from Japan as a minor league free agent before the 2026 season. He's got elite stuff, plus movement, and plus-plus control. He has an elite cutter and curveball, and can occasionally hit 100. He's got good stamina as well, and is a great piece out of the pen.
November 26th, 2029: The Giants made a big splash, signign CF Billy Williamson toa 7-year, $297 million deal. The 29-year-old has a career .288/.366/.501 line with 136 homers and 531 RBI's.
The Padres acquired LHP Enrique Perez from the White Sox for LHP Jonathan Hager and RHP Juan Ulloa. I like this deal for the Padres.
November 29th, 2029: The White Sox sent LHP Trevor Rogers and LF Mike Hennessey to the Diamondbacks from RHP Jyan Delgado and RHP Jeff Kelley. It's a literal steal for Arizona.
December 1st, 2029: The Angels signed longtime SP Sonny Warner to a 4-year, $26.8 million per year deal with an opt out after the second year. He has a 75-63 record with a 3.78 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 1,275 innings with the Natoinals.
Tampa sent RHP Ryan Dease and 1B Ben Murhph along with cash considerations to the Orioles for RHP Tim Tenneson, LHP Chris Cavanagh, and 1B Jamie Collins. Absolute steal for Baltimore.
December 3rd, 2029: The Cubs made a huge splash, signing SP Sergio Barreto to a 7-year, $226.2 million deal. The longtime Mariner has a career 91-62 record with a 3.59 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He has started 33 or more games every year in his career except his Rookie season.
December 4th, 2029: The Mariners made a big signing after losing Barreto, grabbing 3B Nick Senzel to a 4-year, $20.4 million per year deal. He has a career .306/.374/.485 line with 211 homers and 876 RBI's in 7,013 at bats.
Their crosstown friends, the Pilots, signed former Marlin Jorge Moya to a 3-year, $15.6 million per year deal. The 32-year-old vet has 134 career saves and a 3.65 ERA in 444 innings pitched.
December 5th, 2029: Boston signed RHP Jhon Vergara to a 1-year, $6.5 million deal. He is 63-62 with a 4.67 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 404 big league games (152 starts).
The Athletics sent RHP Alvaro Seijas to the Rockies for CF Mike Linear and 1B Pat Schieber. It's an even enough deal.
Deecmber 6th, 2029: The Pilots keep making moves, adding SP Chad Bradenburg to a 6-year, $147 million deal. "Black Jack" was 57-64 with a 4.65 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 193 starts with the Twins. The 30-year-old has started 31 or more games every season in his big league career.
December 7th, 2029: The Winter Meetings start today. As you might expect, a lot of things happened:
The Mariners signed SP Forrest Whitley to a 3-year, $15.2 million per year deal. He has a 96-96 career record with a 4.24 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
The Cardinals extended 2B Brendan Rodgers to a 5-year, $108.4 million deal with a vesting option for 135 games in the final year. He's on the last year of a 6-year deal, and will make $26.2 million this year. He has a career .268/.331/.438 batting line with 205 homers and 710 RBI's.
The Boston Doves acquired LHP Derek Zorn and 2B Mike Kazmierczak from the Yankees for RHP Ernesto Estrella, RHP Juan Hurtado, and cash. It's a steal for the Yanks.
The Seattle Pilots sent RHP Greg Walston to the Giants for LHP Jaquan Pimpton and RF Jeff Bennett. It's a fair deal.
The Padres acquired RHP Connor Van Scoyoc from the Blue Jays for RF Andre Tarver. I like this deal for the Blue Jays.
The Athletics sent RHP Curt Crutchfield to the Diamondbacks for 2B Luis Espinoza. I like this for Arizona.
The Rangers acquried RHP Cody Seddlock and C Braedon Halpenny from the Pirates for RHP Bobby Burnett and RHP Jorge Ramos. I like this for the Rangers.
I added RF Jorge Escobar to the active roster to protect him from the Rule-5 Draft.
I then started to work, sending RF Jarred Kelenic and 3B Connor Royal to the Nationals for CL Bikichi Tsukamoto (75% Retained). I then sent him to the Tigers for LF Chi-yong Kym.
Kym, 23, is a 2/3.5* from South Korea. He's got elite speed and can play great defense in left field. He's got plus-plus contact, plus-plus gap, and strikes out very little. He also has plus power, but needs to work on his eye. He got his first cup of coffee this year, hitting .227/.261/.409 with a solo homer in 22 at bats.
December 8th, 2029: The Diamondbacks signed SS Isaac Nunez to a 7-year, $141,800,000 deal, netting me my first compensation pick. Nunez hit .244/.300/.383 with 93 homers, 396 RBI's, and 114 steals while playing Gold Glove Defense.
The Rangers sent RHP Kevin Larkin and 2B Dave Beam to the Cardinals for LF Corbin Carroll. I like this for both teams.
December 9th, 2029: The Angels sent LHP Tim Cate and cash to the Rockies for LF Ethan Long. I like this deal for the Angels.
The Twins acquired RHP Chad Whye and cash from the Rays for LHP Bob Barth and RHP Josh Harbrecht. I like this deal for the Twins.
Detroit sent RF Jeff Aimone and 2B Luis Camacho to the Royals for RHP Chris Helmick. It's an even swap.
I made a swap with the Nationals, sending relievers Ignacio Hinojos and Jake Hughes their way for fellow reliever Devon Green. Green is no stcrub, but the 25-year-old 2.5/3.5 out of options reliver was acquired for the sake of the salary dump.
I now have a little money for Free Agents, but will likely just hang on to it. I could use a lefty reliver, but I think for now, I'm just going to cruise for the rest of the offseason.
December 10th, 2029: THe Winter Meetings end today. Despite all the chaos, just one move occured: the Phillies sent C Joe Berg to the Rangers for RHP Amari Taliferro. It's such a minor deal...
December 15th, 2029: Today is the Rule-5 Draft. The Montreal Expos took my minor league C Nestore Pierozzi with the first pick. I selected RF Joel Smiley from the Nationals, who I almost traded for.
Smiley, 22, is a 2/4* who can play all three outfield positions. A former 32nd Rounder by the Indians, they released him draft day, and he bounced around between multiple orgnaizations. He hit really well in AA this season, and boasts a really good bat. He's good at avoiding strikeotus, has a plus-plus eye and contact as well as power. He won't hit many extra base hits, but the switch hitter sprays the ball all over the field.
I also lost RHP Juan Zamora to the Rays.
December 22nd, 2029: The Blue Jays signed RHP Gene Hall to a 3-year, $37.5 million deal. A longtime Royal, he spent last year with us. In 350.2 innings, he has a 3.11 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 486 strikeouts and 140 saves. I'll get a pick for him.
December 23rd, 2029: More helpful signigns for me, as the Mariners signed 1B Chris Reid to a 5-year, $24.4 million deal. He has a career .253/.366/.477 line with 191 homers and 522 RBI's.
The Tigers signed Cuban Free Agent Sergio Guervara to a 4-year, $43.4 million deal. The 3B is an elite defender with a really good bat. He tore up the Cuban League, and should fit into the Majors well.
I claimed LF Juan Vitro off waivers and sent him to A+ Jupiter. A 4* prospect, the Orioles selected him back in the 4th Round of the 2025 draft. He's got elite power, plus-plus contact, and is an average outfielder.
December 25th, 2029: The Astros sigend another 26-year-old Cuban Juan Arellano to a 7-year, $133.4 million deal. Another Cuban star, he's got elite stamina, plus-plus stuff, and plus control. He can hit 95-97 with his elite fastball and he does a great job of keeping the ball on the ground.
December 26th, 2029: The Rays signed LHP Cullen Dana to a 5-year, $117.6 million deal. He has a career 52-50 record with a 4.03 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
The Expos signed 3B Anderson Franco to a 5-year, $17.2 million per year deal with a player option for the final season. The Iron Man has a career .244/.321/.478 triple slash with 356 homers and 989 RBI's.
December 29th, 2029: The Mets signed SP Wesley Scott to a 7-year, $115.5 million deal. He has a 48-63 record with a 4.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 188 career starts with Boston and Los Angeles.
December 30th, 2029: The Reds acquired RHP Juan Gerrero and RHP Chris Brummel from thePilots for CF Jared Behlin and C Juan Capote. It's a good deal for the Reds, but not a bad one per say for the Pilots.
December 31st, 2029: I freed up some more salary, sending the rest of Juan Coira's contrac to the Mets for RF Ben Chamness.
Chamness, 23, is a former 1st Rounder by the Mets out of South Florida. He's a 3* prospect who's an elite defender in right field with an elite arm, plus range, and he'll catch almost everything hit to him. He's got decent speed with elite gap power and plus power, with average contact and eye. He's a decent return for a relatively expensive reliever/spot starter.
2030 is going to be fun!
