Today is the second game in the series in Chicago between the Cubs and the Brooklyn Superbas. The Cubs are riding a four game winning streak. There will be no American League games today.
The Cubs placed 1B Bull Smith on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 19.
Philadelphia Phillies SP Ed Siever has a torn labrum and will miss the rest of the season.
The Cleveland Naps have traded LF Jim Jackson and LF Joe Birmingham to the Chicago White Sox for SP Roy Patterson.

In the bottom of the first, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Slagle drew a full count walk and that forced Chance in with the game's first run. Kling flew out to center without picking up an RBI and there was two away. Hofman then grounded to short to end the inning and the Cubs were held to just one run.
In the top of the third, Abbaticchio tied the game with an RBI triple.
In the bottom of the third, Slagle put the Cubs back on top with an RBI single.
After three: Chicago 2 Brooklyn 1.
The bottom of the fourth saw a 57 minute rain delay.
In the top of the sixth, throwing errors on back-to-back plays allowed Lumley to score the tying run. Casey then put the Superbas in the lead with an RBI double.
After six: Brooklyn 3 Chicago 2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Evers tied it back up with a run-scoring single. Evers would then be caught stealing second. It was the 50th time this season that Bergen had thrown out a would-be base stealer.
The top of the ninth began with pinch hitter Phil Lewis striking out for the 20th time this season. The Superbas went down in order.
The Cubs went down in order in the bottom of the ninth and the game went into extra innings.
After nine: Brooklyn 3 Chicago 3.
The top of the eleventh ended with Beebe striking out pinch hitter Lew Ritter for his 10th K of the game.
In the bottom of the eleventh, the Cubs had runners at the corners with two out but Noonan grounded to short to end the inning.
In the top of the thirteenth, another throwing error by Chance allowed Emil Batch to score the go-ahead run. Chance made another error and Abbaticchio scored as a result.
In the bottom of the twelfth, with a runner on second, Schulte flew out to left to end the game.
Seven errors by the Cubs cost them the game as only one of the five Superbas runs was earned.
Final score: Brooklyn 5 Chicago 3 12 innings.
