May 10th-May 16th
May 10th, 2030: We got today off before the Giants came to town for three. We'll see Eric Warren (2-0, 3.57 ERA), Dan Poinsette (3-1, 3.89 ERA), and Josh Canseco (0-1, 9.00 ERA).
May 11th, 2030: The Yankees will be without RHP Frederic Lefort for the year with a torn flexor tendon. He was 1-2 with a 6.32 ERA in 7 starts this season.
The Giants came to town with Eric Warren (2-0, 3.57 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) facing C.J. Jorgensen (4-2, 1.99 ERA, 0.997 WHIP). Mac Horvath and his 1 home run this year is hitting cleanup today in an interesting batting order. It didn't prevent us from scoring runs, but the Giants took advangage of no Scoles and topped us 9-8 with a solo homer in the 9th.
Jorgensen had a rough outing, 4.1 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, but 7 strikeouts. Andy Neidig allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in 0.1 innings. Steve Hudson tossed 2.1 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever allowed 2 hits and 2 runs with a walk and strikeout in an inning. Juan Toribio got the loss, an inning with a hit, run, and 2 strikeouts.
Juan Simetnal was 3-for-4 with a double, steal, walk, and 3 RBI's. Mac Horvath was 3-for-4 with a walk, run scored, and RBI. Ernie Frye was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, double, and walk. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a steal and run scored. Rogelio Maldonado was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a walk. Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with a double, walk, and run scored. Jon Reid was 1-for-5 with a run scored and RBI. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored.
May 12th, 2030: The Yankees took another hit to their pitching, losing RHP Logan Gilbert for the year with radial nerve compression. He tossed 14.2 innings of relief with a 4.30 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 9 strikeouts, and a save.
We looked to even the series back up with Pat Saitta (1-1, 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) facing Dan Poinsette (3-1, 3.89 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). Tied at 2 in the 8th, we rallied for 5 runs to even the series with a 7-2 victory.
Saitta pitched 5 with 5 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts. The pen combined for 4 innings with a hit, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Andy Neidig, who I almost optioned before the game (I will tomorrow when Scoles comes up), struck out the side in the 9th.
Ernie Frye went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jon Reid was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a steal. Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and steal. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, steal, and hit by pitch. Juan Simental was 1-for- with a run scored, steal, and double. Rogelio Maldonado was 1-for-3 with a steal, run scored, 2 RBI's, a steal, and a walk. Rodolfo Solorzano was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
May 13th, 2030: I optioned Neidig to AAA and activated Chad Scoles from the DL.
We dropped all the way to 7th in the Power Rankings. At 23-15, we have a tight 1 game lead over the Mets.
Prospect Watch: 1B Humberto Orozco (AAA New Orleans):
No one ever expected the 24-year-old to reach the highest level of the minors, let alone pass the DSL, but Humberto Orozco has proved the doubters wrong. And like his personality says, "He walks the Talk." Origionally signed by the Pirates out of the D.R. in 2022 for a miniscule $168,000 bonus, he fought hard through the system, eventually rising up to AAA for 30 games in 2029 where he hit .303/.386/.416, but failed to recieve a callup. A minor league free agent, the All-Bat no glove lefty slugger caught on with the Marlins this offseason and has tore up the Pacific Coast League, hitting .329/.351/.643 with 4 homers and 16 RBI's in 70 at bats. Orozco boasts plus-plus contact, power, gap power, and despite a huge swing, he rarley strikes out. He doesn't have the best eye, so he doesn't draw many walks, but he has more career RBI's then strikeotus. He could be interesting trade bait, or he could earn himself a callup later in the year.
We looked to take the finale with Devon Peterson (2-2, 6.27 ERA, 1.73 WHIP) taking on Josh Canseco (0-1, 9.00 ERA, 2.25 WHIP). It was a close one, and they edged us 6-5.
Peterson struggled, 4.2 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Joe Kramer got the loss, 1.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Sam Stewart allowed 3 hits and 2 runs with a strikeout.
Noah Smith came off the bench, and was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Rodolofo Solorzano was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and 2 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4. Rogelio Maldonado was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Juan Simental was 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
We're off to Seattle for three with the Pilots. We'll face Joe Holden (3-1, 3.568 ERA), Kelyn Stuckless (0-1, 7.20 ERA), and Bobby Nicholson (1-4, 5.09 ERA).
May 14th, 2030: I optioned Rogelio Maldonado to AAA to activate Fernando Tatis Jr. from the DL.
We looked to take the opener in Seattle with Steve Paustian (3-4, 4.42 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) taking on Joe Holden (3-1, 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP). We continued to suck with a 6-3 loss.
Paustian went 5.1 with 8 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Juan Toribio went an inning with 2 hits, a run, and walk.
Juan Simetnal was 3-for-4 with a walk and steal. Ernie Frye was 2-for-5 with a double and run scored. Gregorio Alvarenga was 2-for-3 with a run scored, walk, and 2 steals. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Fernando Tatis Jr. was 1-for-4 with an RBI, walk, and double. Paustian was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
May 15th, 2030: We desprately looked to even the series up with Dursun Erbakan (1-0, 5.87 ERA, 1.51 WHIP) facing Kelyn Stuckless (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 1.20 WHIP). It took 11 innings to declare a winner, but we managed to edge the Pilots 5-4.
Erbakan pitched great, 6 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Okay, so great might be a stretch, but much better then I've been used to from my non-Jorgensen starters this year... C.J. LaFever got a "hold" with 0.2 innings of 3 hits and 2 run ball. Chad Scoles got the win, tossing a perfect 10th with a strikeout. Juan Toribio tossed 0.2 innings with a walk and strikeout for the hold, and none other then Joe Kramer got the save, 0.1 innings with a hit and strikeout.
Juan Simental was 3-for-5 with a walk, double, and solo homer. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 walks. Mac Horvath was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, walk, and 2 steal. Sergio Tello was 1-for-5 with a run scored, RBI, and double. Ernie Frye came off the bench and was 1-for-2 with the go ahead RBI in the 11th.
May 16th, 2030: I managed to sneak Joe Kramer through waivers and outright him to AAA. I activated Shiro Hiraki from the DL.
Expect Kramer to gain his 40 man spot later in the year, or at least once the offseason starts. Hopefully the demotion will serve him well.
We looked to take the finale with our only starting pitcher C.J. Jorgensen (4-2, 2.54 ERA, 1.01 WHIP) facing Bobby Nicholson (1-4, 5.09 ERA, 1.52 WHIP). For some reason, Chad Scoles was not used in the 9th, and we lost 4-3... Yay...
Jorgensen went 5.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Sam Stewart went 0.2 innigns with 2 hits, a run, and a walk. Fresh off the DL, Hiaki got the loss, 0.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Rodolfo Solorzano was 3-for-4 with a two run homer in the 9th and steal. Joey Bart was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Former Marlin Jorge Flores tossed a perfect game in a 10-0 win over the Pirates. He struck out 12 of the 27 batters he faced. In his career, he's 112-57 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 1,827 strikeouts. He's one of those pitchers that's so good that you almost expect him to toss a Perfect Game, even if he is 36. He's 5-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 0.80 WHIP this season.
Headed back home to face Flores' Cubs for three. We'll see Sergio Barreto (3-2, 4.63 ERA), Jake Florence (4-1, 2.79 ERA), and Gabe Hines (2-5, 5.72 ERA).
