We opened the Arizona series with Devon Peterson (2-2, 5.56 ERA, 1.67 WHIP) taking on A.J. Alexy (3-4, 2.75 ERA, 1.05 WHIP). Isaac Nunez is hitting leadoff for the D'Backs, and will make his return to Marlins Park. We gave him a nice warm welcome when he got up to bat to start the game. It was a low scoring afair, and they topped us 4-1.
Peterson went 4.1 innings with 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The pen combined for 4.2 innings with a hit, walk, and 6 strikeouts.
Sergio Tello was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Fernando Tatis Jr. was 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-4 with a run scored and steal. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4.
Astros SS Carlos Correa hit his 400th career homer. The 35-year-old has a career .297/.369/.516 line with 1,345 RBI's. He's been selected to 7 All-Star Games and Won the 2021 AL MVP.
May 25th, 2030: The Senators sent RHP Tim Undlin and RHP Jeff Rinella to the Pirates for LF G.I. Brierre. I like this swap for the Senators.
We looked to even the series back up with Steve Paustian (3-5, 4.31 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) facing the red-hot Mike Steele (6-1, 3.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP). Our pitching was brilliant, and we shut them out 1-0.
Paustian went 6 with 5 hits and 6 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever got the win, 2 innings with 3 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Chad Scoles got a strikeout in a perfect 9th to earn his 12th save.
Juan Simental was 3-for-4. Noah Smith was 2-for-4. Mac Horvath and Fernando Tatis Jr. were both 1-for-3 with a walk. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Ernie Frye was 1-for-5 with a double.

Erbakan, who was starting to turn the corner, allowed 9 hits and 9 runs in 3 innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts. Steve Hudson pitched well, 3 innings with 2 hits, just 1 run, and 2 strikeout. Luis Alcantra got just 1 out and allowed 4 hits and 3 runs. Shiro Hiraki went 0.2 innings with 3 hits, 4 runs, and a walk. Sam Stewart went 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, and 2 strikeouts.

We headed to Philadelphia for three with the Phillies. We'd see Jim Gilbert (2-4, 3.83 ERA), Sergio Monreal (1-2, 4.42 ERA), and Jonathan Childress (1-3, 4.15 ERA).
May 27th, 2030: We moved up to 13th in the Power Rankings. At 28-23, we are 3 games behind the Mets for first, and 2.5 games behind the Cubs for the 2nd Wild Card.
Prospect Watch: C Pat Hughes (AAA New Orleans):
Rated the #7 Prospect in the system, Pat Hughes came over from the Rangers off Waivers in January of 2028. A former 8th Round Pick in 2023 by Texas, Hughes stalled out in the Rangers system, and the move to Miami really did him well. He hit well enough last year to earn a callup to the big league club, and has gotten another cup of coffee this year. He isn't the best defender behind the plate, but he has a solid bat and plus eye with great extra base hit power. He's been absolutely crushing it in New Orleans this year, hitting .341/.414/.545 with 5 homers and 15 RBI's. Ahead of Jorge Tapia in the farm rankings, he's likely to become the backup catcher next year, and will likely be called upon again if a replacement catcher is needed.
We opened the series in Philadelphia with C.J. Jorgensen (5-2, 2.35 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) taking on Jim Gilbert (2-4, 3.83 ERA, 1.31 WHIP). In the 9th, down 1-0, Juan Simental hit a solo homer to force extras. In the 11th, Mike Tate hit a walk-off double, and we lost the opener 2-1.
Jorgensen pitched alright, 6 innings with 8 hits, a run, walk, and 3 strikeouts. Chad Scoles got the loss, 1.2 innings with 3 hits, a run, and 2 strikeouts.
Ernie Frye was 2-for-4 with a walk and double. Juan Simental was 1-for-4 with the solo homer. Omari Tetteh was 1-for-4 with a double. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4.
Rays RF Tim Green was 5-for-5 in a 7-0 shutout of the Red Sox.
May 28th, 2030: We looked to even the series back up with Pat Saitta (1-2, 5.54 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) facing Sergio Monreal (1-2, 4.42 ERA, 1.53 WHIP). The offense came back today, and we beat the hosts 9-4.
Saitta pitched well, 6 innings with 5 hits, 3 unearned runs, a walk, and 7 strikeouts to lower his ERA below 5. Luis Alcantra went 2 innigns with a hit, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Shiro Hiraki pitched the 9th, allowing 2 hits and a run while getting a strikeout.
Juan Simental was 3-for-4 with a double, 2 homers, a walk, and 4 RBI's. Noah SMith was 2-for-4 with a triple, homer, and 3 RBI's. Mac Horavth was 2-for-2 with a double, hit by pitch, 2 runs, an RBI, and 2 walks. Saitta was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Fernando Tatis Jr. was 1-for-5 with a run scored.
May 29th, 2030: The finale saw Devon Peterson (2-3, 5.81 ERA, 1.71 WHIP) duel with Jonathan Childress (1-3, 4.15 ERA, 1.21 WHIP). We got 4 in the 9th to complete a 7-4 comeback win.
Rodolfo Solorzano left with knee soreness, and will head to the AAA DL.
Peterson went 5.2 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. C.J. LaFever got the win, 2.1 innings with 2 hits and 4 strikeouts. Chad Scoles got the sav, an inning with a hit and strikeout.
Ernie Frye was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and 2 doubles. Gregorio Alvarenga was 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI off the bench. Juan Simental was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and hit by pitch. Jackson Miller was 1-for-3 with a steal, 2 runs, and a hit by pitch. Solorzano was 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and run scored.
I purchased the contract of 2B Vidal Brujan from AAA New Orleans. He joined the team on a minor league deal in the spring. The longtime Rockie used to be a prospect in our system.
We're headed home for three with the Rockies as we look to finish May on a high note. We'll see Luis Ardon (2-5, 4.99 ERA), Eric Dawson (5-2, 5.28 ERA), and Ty Madden (2-3, 5.09 ERA).
