The Cubs gave it all they had in Game 1 of the series, putting up a 5-spot in the 1st inning off of Phillies' starter Brandon McCarthy and setting the tone for the game. The Phillies' offense couldn't get much going throughout the entire game, as Kyle Hendricks allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits over 8 innings of masterful work. The Phillies will hope to rebound and win the series in front of the home crowd in these next 2 games.

Both teams went to their bullpens relatively early, as starters Jon Lester and Ben Lively went just 5 innings each. The Cubs got the first run on the board with a solo HR by Kris Bryant in the 1st inning, but the Phillies took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with RBIs by JP Crawford and Jorge Alfaro. The Cubs took back the lead with a 2-run HR by Anthony Rizzo in the 3rd, and, from there, the offenses went silent. Each team got 4 scoreless innings from their bullpen, and the Phillies couldn't quite get the big hits they needed to retake the lead, and so they fell 3-2, losing the series. The Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound tomorrow to oppose Jose Quintana.

It was a pitchers' duel as starters Aaron Nola and Jose Quintana both pitched ace-like outings. Quintana went 7.1 IP, allowing 1 ER on 7 H and 2 BB, while Nola went 7 IP, allowing 1 ER on 6 H and 2 BB. Neither the Phillies nor Cubs could get much going until the 10th inning, when the Cubs got a PH solo HR from Willson Contreras, following by an RBI from Kris Bryant, who has been on fire at the plate all series. The Phillies got a run back on a PH solo shot of their own, this time by Dylan Cozens, in the bottom of the 10th, but they could not tie the score with another run, and fell 3-2 for the 2nd game in a row. The Phillies have been swept by the Cubs and have lost 4 games in a row overall, looking to straighten themselves out with an upcoming road trip. They head to Baltimore for a 2-game set, starting tomorrow.
