Transactions:- Purchased contract of C Tom Nieto and promoted him to the majors
- Signed C Jaime Quirk and 2B Ron Oester to minor league contracts and assigned them to AAA
- Activated CF Bob Dernier from the 60 Day DL and added him to the 40 man roster
- Designated RP Rich Buonantony for assignment
- Offered Minor League Contract to SP Richard Dotson
Notes:
We went 2-5 this week, losing to San Diego, spliting 2 game series with both the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates anf losing the first 2 games to the Montreal Expos. Ken Howell got one of the wins going 8 strong innings against the Cubs giving up 1 run.
Quirk and Oester were needed to fill out the AAA roster after promoting Nieto. At this point I'm just trying to add some veterans that could possibly play well enough to make the team next year. Buonantony was DFA'd as he never should have been put on the 40 man to begin with. He's a marginal prospect that's at least 3 years away. No one will claim him. Dotson is a 30 year old former All-Star with decent control and movement.
