2 players brought home the victory for the Phillies tonight, being SP Brandon McCarthy and CF Odubel Herrera. In a game in which the Phillies were looking for a bounce-back start from McCarthy, they got even more, as McCarthy went 8 IP, allowing just 1 R. Mets SP Steven Matz was impressive as well, pitching 6 IP of 2 R ball, allowing just 3 H and 1 BB. However, Odubel Herrera was up to the task in providing the necessary run support for Brandon McCarthy, hitting an RBI double in the 1st to put the Phillies on the board, then hitting a solo HR in the 6th to break a 1-1 tie that would ultimately be the winning RBI. The Phillies opted to take no risks, going to Raisel Iglesias in the 9th, and he pitched a 1-2-3 inning for his 4th save of the season.
Romero Demoted, Lively Recalled
5/7/19: The Phillies have optioned LHP Jojo Romero to AAA. They have recalled RHP Ben Lively in a corresponding move. Lively was demoted to AAA on April 20, but he has been recalled to make a spot start with SP Nick Kingham currently DtD.

Lively 1
Andrew Knapp did it all in leading the Phillies to a comeback win over the Mets to secure a series win. After a shaky start by Ben Lively in which he was forced out following a 5-run 4th by the Mets, the Phillies' bullpen stepped up in a major way, pitching 5 scoreless innings to keep the Phillies in the ballgame. Carlos Santana was a major contributor, going 3 for 3 with 1 BB and scoring 3 R in the victory. However, Andrew Knapp stole the show today, hitting not one, but TWO HR. He got the Phillies started in the 2nd, hitting a 3-run HR off of Mets starter Zack Wheeler to give the Phillies an early 3-0 lead. However, there was more yet to come. Andrew Knapp came up in the 6th facing Wheeler again with a chance to give the Phillies the lead. Knapp came through, launching a 2-run HR to right to give the Phillies a 6-5 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. With the events of this game, Phillies secured their first series win since April 15-17, and they will go for the sweep in their next game.
Lively Optioned to AAA, De Los Santos Recalled
After making a spot start against the Mets in Game 2 of this series, Lively has once again been optioned to AAA. Enyel De Los Santos will get the call this time, and will likely make the next potential spot start.
Nola Falters as Phillies Settle for 2 Out of 3
5/8/19: Game 30
PHI (13-17) vs. NYM (16-14), L 9-3
W: Clevinger (2-2, 4.54) L: Nola (4-2, 3.64) SV: N/A
NYM Lineup:
Pollock 8
Rosario 6
Smith 3 - 3 for 5, 1 RBI
Conforto 7 - 3 for 5, 2 RBI
Bruce 9
LeMahieu 4
Plawecki 2
Frazier 5
Clevinger 1
PHI Lineup:
Crawford 6
Donaldson 5 - 3 for 3, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Santana 3
Williams 9
Alfaro 2
Hoskins 7
Kingery 4
Nola 1
Quinn 8
Aaron Nola struggled as he threw 6 IP, allowing 6 R, 5 earned, on 11 H. Despite JP Crawford's 2 RBI and Josh Donaldson's 3 for 3 night, the Phillies' offense couldn't back up the shaky start by Nola, and the Phillies would have to settle for taking 2 of 3 from the Mets for the series win. The Mets got standout performances from 1B Dominic Smith and LF Michael Conforto, who each went 3 for 5 on the night in the 9-run effort. The Phillies will head on a road trip starting with 3 games in Milwaukee, hoping to build off of this series win to turn their rather middling season around.
