Harry Lyerly tosses his 3rd shutout of the season and he is tied with veteran Miguel Chavez of San Francisco for the MGL lead in that category. Lyerly improves to 6-2 with a 3.09 ERA and at this point is pretty clearly the best starter in the Brewers rotation. In fact, Lyerly is tied for second among pitchers in WAR in the MGL, leads the league in strikeouts and easily in strikeouts per 9 innings pitched (9.4), is 4th in the league in K/BB ratio, and is 1st in FIP.
The kid is good.
And, most surprisingly, he works 9 innings without allowing any HR's, with a few of the Detroit starters prodigious power hitters (Jamison Bash and Nate Kuykendall in particular, although Bash is off to an uncharacteristically slow start in that area with only 3 HR's.)
