In only his second start of the season, Will Smart provides the Brewers with a beauty as they take game 1 against Charlotte (in Denver) 5-0.
Smart worked 8 scoreless innings, allowing just 5 hits while striking out 8 and walking nary a batter.
He got all the offensive help he would need from Tanner Yurek, who hit his 9th HR of the season to tie Antonio Puente for the team lead, and also hit his 8th double, going 2 for 3 in the game.
Kevin Curtis also provided a HR, his 2nd of the year, a 2-run shot in the 7th as part of a 4-run inning that finally gave Smart a comfortable cushion to work with. Curtis, who is a fine defensive catcher and has a very good eye at the plate, is earning more and more playing time as he has been even better than the team hoped for this season.
