In the top of the first, Howard hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, the Tigers loaded the bases with two out. But Kaline struck out to end the inning and Broberg had a no-hitter through three.

Northrup led off the bottom of the sixth with the game tying home run that also broke up the no-hitter.

After six: Texas 1 Detroit 1.

The top of the seventh ended with Lolich striking out Biittner for his 10th K of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Northrup then put the Tigers in the lead with a run-scoring single. McAuliffe flew to left for the second out. Kaline then struck out to end the inning.

Chuck Seelbach took the mound for the Tigers in the top of the eighth. Rain began to fall.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers again loaded the bases with one out. Brinkman went down on strikes for the second out. Seelbach then grounded to the pitcher to end the inning.

Seelbach got the three up three down in the top of the ninth.

The Tigers won despite getting just 4 hits.

Final score: Detroit 2 Texas 1.
