I'm trying to understand why we aren't winning more games when we have good players playing well. I think possibly we might be losing because -- and this sounds counterintuitive-- because we have starting pitchers who go so deep into the games. Dierker is 12-12, Raschi is 7-7. They're only winning half the games in spite of being so good. We have the 3rd best starters ERA. Maybe I should be putting strong pitchers with lesser endurance, like 50-80 endurance-- in the starters roles, and putting some of these guys like Raschi and Dierker in the bullpen. I'm not sure if that's crazy talk or if it makes sense, as I'm not sure what numbers I would need to support or argue against the idea. I guess I would need to know the ERA of these starters in each inning. If their ERA goes up as the game progresses, then it might make more sense to use everyone fewer innings at a time.

Then there are exceptions, like Len Barker who is 15-7 with a 2.94 ERA. Each of these guys in my rotation are having that kind of year for some team somewhere-- they're all capable of that kind of season. I guess it's important in Perfect Team to sense early which guys are having what kind of season and put them in the position in which they can contribute best.

Oh I completely revamped my catching again, with Thurman Munson (91 defense) and Tony Pena Sr (138 defense-- 138!!!) taking over. In center, I am taking a chance on Lance Johnson with his 83 centerfield defense. 89 speed and 103 rated arm. We have to play well to get into the postseason, so I want the defense tightened.
