Walkers news: Sept. 10 -- Quad City 6, St. Louis 5, Game 2
Hanley Ramirez snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-run home run off Kyle Hendricks in the top of the fifth inning and the Quad City Thunder held on for a 6-4 win over the St. Louis River Walkers in the second game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium.
Down 2-0 after Wil Myers homered off Hendricks in the top of the first, St. Louis actually rallied to take a 4-2 lead.
Rhys Hoskins knocked a two-run double off Quad City starting pitcher Justus Sheffield in the bottom of the first. Carlos Asuaje had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the same inning.
Jedd Gyorko's RBI double in the second put the Walkers up 4-2.
But the Thunder stormed back to tie it just a half-inning later.
Orlando Arcia plated both runs with a double.
Sheffield was not at the top of his game lasting just four innings during which St. Louis would score all of its runs.
Four relievers (Travis Lakins (1.0 IP), Corey Taylor (2.0), Jimmy Herget (1.0) and Craig Kimbrel), however, combined to shut out the Walkers the rest of the way.
Taylor handed the sixth to earn the win. Kimbrel collected his 27th save of the season.
