Walkers news: Sept. 20 -- St. Louis 7, Cedar Rapids 2, Game 1
St. Louis' Rhys Hoskins was 3 for 4 with a double, a homer, three runs scored and three RBIs to help lead St. Louis to a 7-2 win over Cedar Rapids at Shibe Park.
The contest was the opening game of a doubleheader. The River Walkers served as the home team in a road park as the original game was rained out in St. Louis.
Hoskins first big hit was a two-run homer off Golden Grapplers starting pitcher Trevor Williams, staking St. Louis to a 2-0 lead.
His second came in the third inning. It also came off Williams, and it was a single that put up the Walkers' 3-2 and gave them the lead for good.
Jin-hwan Chung later plated Hoskins in the third, with a two-out double to make it 4-2.
St. Louis starting pitcher Aaron Nola went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out seven and walked none.
Three relievers (Phil Maton (0.1 IP), Bobby Poyner (1.2) and Reyes Moronta (1.0) combined to shut out the Grapplers the rest of the way.
Chung was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
