NLCS Game 3: St. Louis 8, Madison 1
St. Louis scored twice in the top of the first inning and kept on adding on as it defeated Madison 8-1 to grab a 2-1 lead in the National League Championship Series at Comiskey Park.
Ender Inciarte opened the game with a single off Muskies starting pitcher Adam Slegers and scored when Andrew Benintendi followed with a double.
A Michael Conforto single two batters later plated Benintendi, giving St. Louis all the runs it would eventually need.
Madison did halve the lead in the bottom of the first, Nomar Mazara with a single which scored Brandon Nimmo, who had reached on an error by shortstop Adieny Hechavarria, but that would prove to be the only run the Muskies would get off Walkers starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks and the seven relievers who followed him to the mound.
Hendricks pitched six innings, giving up the one run on five hits. He struck out five and walked two.
At the plate, Hechavarria ended up 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs. Benintendi was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs as St. Louis scored single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings before tallying twice in the eighth.
