Rockford starting pitcher Cole Hamels tossed seven shutout innings and Will Smith handled the final two as the Lightning shutout the St. Louis River Walkers 2-0 at RFK Stadium.
Hamels limited St. Louis to three hits during his time on the mound, while striking out three and walking a pair.
Smith allowed one hit in the final two innings, while striking out a pair.
The Lightning got both their runs in the second inning when Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer off Walkers starter Aaron Nola.
Nola would pitch six innings, allowing six hits along with the two runs. He struck out three and walked a pair.
