Walkers news: May 9 -- St. Louis 7, Grand Rapids 1
Record: 17-12, 2nd, 1 GB Des Moines
Kyle Hendricks supplied the St. Louis River Walkers with the starting pitching performance they have so desperately needed, allowing one run over seven innings to pave the way for a 7-1 win over Grand Rapids at the Polo Grounds.
The victory ended a four-game losing streak for St. Louis.
The Traders actually struck first, Hendricks allowing three first inning singles -- the last of which from Kris Bryant scored Jean Segura who had opened the inning with a single.
Hendricks was dominant after that, not allowing a hit over the next six innings. He struck out four and walked none.
St. Louis took control in the fourth inning when they clubbed three home runs off rookie Touki Toussaint.
Andrew Benintendi led off the inning with a homer.
After a walk to Rhys Hoskins, Tucker Barnhart hit a two-run blast. The next batter, Eduardo Nunez also went deep.
The Walkers, however, were not finished with Toussaint who suffered all the damage.
Ender Inciarte drove in the inning's fifth run with a single. An Albert Almora double then scored Inciarte.
