I wasn't scheduled to start today but at the last minute I did. I led off against Jose DeLeon and the Pirates by grounding out to short.
The Giants has Eric Show going. He got in trouble early, giving up a three run homer to Leon Durham in the 1st.
Pirates lead 3-0.
I came up with two out in the 3rd, and Bobby Grich on 2nd. I walked. Mike Aldrete singled, scoring Bobby and sending me to 3rd. The two of us are left there.
Pirates lead 3-1.
I got the 3rd out in the bottom half, taking an Ozzie Virgil grounder.
I also got the 1st out in the 4th, off a Bip Roberts grounder. Then I caught an Ozzie Smith pop for the 3rd.
Mike Perez took over pitching in the 5th.
I got the 3rd out for him, grabbing a Virgil liner.
I led off the 6th, now facing Cecilio Guante. I singled to right. I stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on Virgil's errant throw. Guante then struck out the next three guys.
Mike gave up a single to the first batter in the 7th and Nestor lifted him for Mark Davis.
I was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 8th.
There was no more scoring.
After the game we found out the team signed 36 year old vet Doyle Alexander. It was a minor league deal, but like all the vets they brought in, they are giving him a shot in spring training.
