Jeff Hoffman kept St. Louis scoreless for 5.1 innings and five relievers retained the shutout the rest of the way, as Fort Wayne won 4-0 at Busch Stadium.
The Mad Men got the only runs they would need in the top of the first when Ademar Rifaela hit a two-run homer off River Walkers starting pitcher Aaron Nola.
Fort Wayne added two insurance runs in the eighth inning.Joey Votto drove in one with a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch by reliever Grant Dayton scored the other.
Hoffman scattered four hits over his 5.1 innings. He struck out two and walked two.The five relievers -- Ryan Tepera (0.2 IP), Nick Goody (0.1), Kelvin Herrera (0.2), Dan Jennings (1.0) and Jake Brentz (1.0) -- limited St. Louis to two hits and walk over the final 3.2 innings.
