Walkers news: August 1 -- Cedar Rapid 8, St. Louis 1

Record: 62-42, 2nd, 1 GB Des Moines
Cedar Rapids jumped on St. Louis ace Aaron Nola for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in a 5-1 win at Shibe Park (1949).
The Golden Grapplers didn't need the long ball to get to Nola, as they banged out four hits and benefited from a pair of walks and a wild pitch.
All the runs were scored with two outs.

Keon Broxton drove in the first two runs with a two-out double.Trevor Story followed with a two-run single. The inning's final run scored on a James McCann double.
Nola would pitch three innings before being replaced by a pinch-hitter. He allowed the five runs on six hits.
Grapplers starting pitcher Chris Archer was sharp, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings. He allowed five hits while striking out six and walking three.
Cedar Rapids used four relievers -- Tyler Bashlor (1.2 IP), Thomas Hackimer, (1.0) and Ben Bowden (1.0) -- to finish the game out without allowing St. Louis to score another run.
