Walkers news: August 4 -- St. Louis 13, Kansas City 5
Record: 64-42, 1st, Tied with Des Moines
Kansas City's Joey Gallo rocked Yu Darvish for a three-run homer in the top of the first inning.
But it didn't prove to be much of a problem.
St. Louis responded with six runs off Dinelson Lamet in the bottom of the inning, opening the door for a 13-5 win over the Pit Masters at Busch Stadium (1997).
Lamet walked four batters in the bottom of the first, forcing in one run, before Nicky Delmonico provided the big blow with a grand slam.
The River Walkers, however, were not done as Manny Pina followed Delonico's homer with a solo shot to make it 6-3.
Yasmani Grandal led off the top of the second with an inside the park homer.
But St. Louis just kept on piling up the runs when it had the opportunity.
It scored four runs between the third and fifth innings, and put up a three-spot in the eighth to officially make it a rout.
Delmonico yielded the biggest stick hitting two homers, while going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and seven RBIs.
Darvish struggled in his second straight start since joining the Walkers, but at least lasted long enough to earn the win.
He pitched five innings, allowing four runs on four hits. He struck out nine and walked four.
This game was a walk-fest as Kansas City issued nine free passes and St. Louis doled out four.
The Walkers used four relievers -- Chaz Roe (2.0 IP), Phil Maton (0.2), Keone Kela (0.1) and Danny Hudson (1.0) to close it out.
