Walker news: Delmonico diagnosed with rib cage injury
The St. Louis River Walkers have learned third baseman Nicky Delmonico has been confirmed to have a strained rib cage injury.
While, it won't prevent him from playing it will hamper him for up to four weeks.
The 28-year-old Delmonico is having a strong season at the plate, and in recent weeks been among the top hitters in the National League, altogether he is hitting .274 with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs in 78 games.
As of right now, Delmonico will remain on the major-league roster and perhaps be limited to pinch-hitting duties.
First baseman Joe Mundy has been recalled from AAA Memphis, where he is hitting .300 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 68 games.
In a recent callup to the Walkers, the 24-year-old hit .500 in eight games with a homer and six RBIs.
To open up a spot for Mundy, infielder Carlos Asuaje was assigned to Memphis but will have to pass through waivers first.
Like Mundy, Asuaje has bounced back and forth between St. Louis and Memphis this season.
In 11 games with the Walkers, the 28-year-old is hitting .133 with no homers or RBIs in 11 games.
