Walkers news: Sept. 24 -- Quad City 3, St.Louis 3

Record: 87-66, 3rd, 5 GB Des Moines
Cody Ponce took a shutout into the seventh inning and Quad City posted a 3-2 win over St. Louis at Fenway Park (1970).
With the win, the Thunder took the third game of the series after dropping the first two. The loss dropped the River Walkers, who sit in third place, five games behind first-place Des Moines. St. Louis has nine games left to play.
Scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Quad City got on the board first when pitcher Ponce drew a one-out walk from St. Louis starting pitcher Aaron Nola and moved to third on an Anthony Alford double.
Both scored when Orlando Arcia connected for a double.
St. Louis got on the board in the eighth, when Adeiny Hechavarria led off with a single off reliever Jimmy Herget and later scored on a Sam Howard wild pitch.

But Quad City got the run back on a solo home run from Derek Fisher off reliever Phil Maton.
The run proved important, as the River Walkers scored once in the top of the ninth on a Hechavarria double off closer Craig Kimbrel, which left runners at second and third with one out.
Jose Almonte then took the mound. He walked Will Benson to load the bases.
However, Ender Inciarte hit into a fielder's choice to end it.
Ponce worked shutout 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and walking one.
The Thunder needed to shuffle through seven relievers to close it out.
No batter record more than two outs -- three of them did that -- Almonte got the final out for his first save.
Nola worked seven innings for St. Louis, giving up two runs on nine hits.
