Joc Pederson hit a two-run home run off St. Louis reliever Bobby Poyner with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to help lift Cedar Rapids to a 9-8 win at Busch Stadium.
With the victory, Cedar Rapids salvaged the final game of the three-game series. The Golden Grapplers lead Des Moines by 2.5 games in the National League South standings and the River Walkers by three.
St. Louis would cut its deficit to one in the bottom of the ninth when Adeiny Hechavarria scored on a two-out double by Bo Bichette off Cedar Rapids reliever Jacob Rhame.
Ender Inciarte followed with a single, but Bichette was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Victor Robles.
Cedar Rapids broke to a 7-1 lead only to see St. Louis roar back mostly behind a six-run bottom of the fifth inning.
Yoan Moncada hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Yu Darvish in the fourth inning.
Andrew Benintendi had a two-run single in the fifth off reliever Abel De La Santos in the fifth.
Grapplers starting pitcher David Cullison gave up one run over four innings.
Cedar Rapids needed five pitchers to cover the final five innings.
Tyler Bashlor (1.1 IP), Thomas Hackimer (1.0) and Ryan Webb (1.0) all handled at least an inning.
Danny Grigg (0.1) and Rhame (0.2) combined to handle the ninth.
Hackimer earned his third win of the season. Rhame collected his second save.
