Walkers news: July 5 -- Cedar Rapids 8, St. Louis 5
Record: 43-40, 3rd, 3.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids' Joc Pederson was 3 for 5 with five RBIs, including three off a home run off St. Louis starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks, in the top of the fourth inning that snapped a 5-5 tie and sent the Golden Grapplers onto an 8-5 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
It was wild one early.
Both teams scored once in the second inning and four times in the second, setting the score at 5-all.
But Pederson's blast of Hendricks provided the final runs of the game.
Mark Zagurski stepped for the Grapplers after starting pitcher Mark Cullison allowed five runs on eight hits over the first 2.1 innings.
Zagurski finished off the third inning and held the River Walkers scoreless in the fourth and recorded the first two outs of the fifth to earn his first win of the season.
Tyler Bashlor closed out the fifth and handled a scoreless sixth inning.
Thomas Hackimer was flawless in the eighth and got the first two outs of the ninth.
Ben Bowden retired the only hitter he faced for his second save of 2021.
