Vic Cosman
From the Journal of Julien Henri
Ok, Vic Cosman. I can't help but write about him in the journal. If you asked me who leads the club he'd be my answer. A lot of people look at Faure our catcher as the team leader. Maybe it's because I pitch that Vic catches my attention more. He such a consummate pro...goes out there every 5th day and does nothing but win. I mean, he has not had a losing season in his career in the FBL. And, on our team, that is impressive. It's no secret how Le Diamant was a doormat the first four years.
Cosman has a career WHIP under 1.00. I actually kept his 1965 baseball card when he won the Pitcher of the Year Award. I just checked his WHIP in the stats page and he is experiencing a career best 0.76 at the moment.
He's not much of a hitter but he did go yard in 63. Wish I would have been here to see it.
One of his pitches that I'd like to master is the change up. He is just a touch behind Burke and Watts, who are considered to have the best change ups in the FBL. I guess it's delivery that makes it work. I can't see any difference in his motions between the fastball and the change up. There are a lot of guys who throw harder than Cosman (92-94), but, few have his accuracy.
Cosman's last year of arbitration is coming up so the team will have to make a decision on securing him or letting him go. I kid around with him sometimes and ask him how much he thinks he'll get in free agency. He told me that 6 figures, maybe $100 K might be the going rate. That is a lot of francs to a guy making $11 K a year.
