2074 Season (6/19 – 6/20 @ Vancouver Whitecaps)

Phoenix Suns (38-32, .543) @ Vancouver Whitecaps (32-37, .464)
The Vancouver Whitecaps are a good club in a bad way – with 64 HR’s on the season, their power isn’t in doubt and with key players on the DL it’s telling that their offense hasn’t completely bottomed out – that’s called depth folks. They currently sit last in Starters ERA – not completely unexpected when 80% of your rotation has spent significant time on the DL, and improvement in that department will be tough with SP Cuco Verhoeven out for the season with a torn UCL. Their offense is captained by 26-year-old 3B Kevin Palmer, known for making pitchers work, K-Palm is a spray hitter that doesn’t strike out often as evidenced by his .345/.398/.440 line and 130 OPS+. Vancouver are 11-5 so far in June and 2-4 against us this season with one win in their house and one win in ours. We want a mini-sweep.

71 of 162: Del Miller (7-3, 4.85) @ Nick Boyer (0-3, 5.60)
A good start for Phoenix – a 6-2 win after dropping 3 straight in the Republic of California. RF Jong-Hwan Song (2 for 3, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) and C Norton Manning (3 for 5, 2B, 2RBI) led the way offensively while Del Miller gave us 8.2 innings of work with only 2 runs getting across before handing it over to CL Paul Williams for the SV – he threw 6 pitches and got the K on the only batter he faced. No errors for the Suns today, but we did strike out 11 times. Luke Labonte finished 3 for 5 with 2 K’s and Derek got a hit and scored a run.

72 of 162: Michael Brisk (8-4, 2.88) @ Kevin Herrera (2-1, 4.29)
Brisk was tip-top (8 IP, 11H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K), but so was Herrera (8 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K). The difference today was the two errors committed by 24-year-old SS Maddox Wahlen – a couple of uncharacteristic, yet costly miscues. Our club struck out 10 times but did manage to put a couple out of the yard courtesy of Dylan Huerta (in a DH role) and 1B Jacob Wells. Good effort from the home team – Whitecaps win 5-3.

We really wanted to get both W’s in this two-game set – would’ve made our 5+ hour flight to Philly a bit more enjoyable. Ending our road trip with four games in front of the Philadelphia crowd should energize our club.
