Walkers news: Sept. 1 -- St. Louis 2, Springfield 1

Record: 69-64, 4th (tied/w. Springfield), 4.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Alex Faedo allowed one run over just shy of seven innings to help St. Louis to a 2-1 win over Springfield at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the win, St. Louis was able to avoid getting swept in the three-game series by the Prairie Fighters.
St. Louis and Springfield are tied for fourth in the tightly bunched National League South Division, 4.5 games behind first-place Cedar Rapids.

The River Walkers got on the board in the second inning when Nicky Delmonico led off with a single off Fighters starter Tyler Stevens.
An error hit on a ground ball by J.T. Realmuto allowed both runner and hitter to reach base.
Tyler Esplin, making his first MBL plate appearance, then drew a walk to load the bases.
Andrelton Simmons followed with a single, bringing Delmonico home with the game's initial run.
Pinch-hitter Joe Mundy made it 2-0 in the seventh inning with a homer off Eduardo Paerdes.
Springfield got its run in the after Freddie Freeman drew a one-out walk from Grant Dayton and scored when Dylan Couzens followed with a double.
Phil Maton came on to strike out Todd Frazier to strand Couzens at second.
Closer Tommy Kahnle worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 25th save.
Relievers Reyes Moronta (0.1 IP), Dayton (0.2) and Maton (0.1) also took the mound for St. Louis.
