Walkers news: Sept. 5 -- Green Bay 2, St. Louis 0
Record: 70-66, 3rd (Tied/w. Springfield and Des Moines), 3.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Clayton Kershaw and a pair of relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as Green Bay defeated St. Louis 2-0 at War Memorial Stadium (Buffalo).
With the win, the Long Haulers took first and third games of the weekend series. The loss leaves the River Walkers in a three-way tie for third in the National League South Division with Des Moines and Springfield, 3.5 games behind first-place Cedar Rapids.
Green Bay broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth, when with one out St.Louis starting pitcher Danny Duffy gave up consecutive singles to Bobby Gulden and Brandon Lowe before a walk to Javier Baez loaded the bases.
Kershaw then drove in the only run it turned out his team would need with a sacrifice fly.
The veteran left-hander would pitch six scoreless innings, allowing five hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Tommy Hunter handled a scoreless seventh and eighth innings.
The ninth belonged to Andrew Miller, who recorded his ninth save.
Green Bay's other run came in the sixth after Chance Sisco led off with a triple off Duffy.
He would score on a Brandon Lowe single.
