Danny Duffy allowed one run over seven innings to help St. Louis down Des Moines 5-1 in the opening game of a big four-game series at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the win, the River Walkers moved past the Harvesters and into second place in the National League South Division. St. Louis trails first-place Cedar Rapids by two games.
In his seven innings, Duffy allowed just two hits while striking out six and walking two.
The only run he allowed came on a sixth-inning homer Rafael Devers which tied it at 1-1.
The Walkers answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
A sacrifice fly from Rhys Hoskins drove in Ender Inciarte with the first run.
The next two came on a homer from Nicky Delmonico.
Reliever Bryan Garcia was on the mound for Des Moines for all of the runs.
A Bo Bichette single in the seventh scored Andrelton Simmons with St. Louis' fifth and final run.
Omar Garcia handled a scoreless eighth inning for the Walkers.
Josh Lindgren got the first out of the ninth. Tony Gonsolin ended it by striking out the next two.
