The Super League

The Super League started in the year 3000 with 16 teams. The original 16 teams were formed from the various nations in the Multiverse. Some of these were from the "cities" in the Multiverse, such as Alethkar or Gallifrey, while others were representative teams. Examples of these would be The Avengers or The Empire, not coming directly from a city but representing a major faction or entity in the fictional world. There are no divisions or separations in the league, just a straight up 16 team league. Every team will play each other twice, home and away, in three game series for a total of 90 matches. Games are only played at the weekend from Friday to Sunday. Friday games occur at 7pm while the Saturday and Sunday matches are played in the afternoon at 3pm. The season starts on the first Friday of March and runs until September at which point the top 6 teams enter the playoffs. The top two teams earn a first round byewhile three to six playoff in a seeded 5 game series. The winners progress to the semi final against thetoptwo. Finally the two winners will play in the Super League Championship series to determine the winner of the season.

Original 16 Teams

The first exciting season was a close affair eventually won by the Starfleet Captains. They beat the Rebel Alliance in a 3-0 sweep in the Championship final. There was a tough battle to get into the playoffs with two teams missing out by a single win. Armando Torres of Starfleet hit an incredible 32 homeruns, a record that stood for the first 12 seasons of play. Starfleet also started the inital trend where five of the first six Championships were won by the #1 ranked team from the regular season.

Play continued like this for the first 14 seasons until the first major shake up took place. The ProLeague which had been founded a few years prior entered an agreement with the Super League and promotion relegation was introduced. With the expansion to 8 teams in the Pro League, it was decided to have one team promoted and relegated each season. Suddenly the teams who were happy to gather draft picks and idle at the bottom for a few seasons were on notice. Relegation could land them in some trouble. Losing their star players seemed likely as these guys wanted to stay in the Super League. Also they would lose some of the superior funding of the Super League from media deals, merchandising and fan bases. On the opposite side were the expansion teams trying to break into the big time and succeed in the Super League via promotion. In the 3014 the first relegated team was The Avengers and for the 3015 season the Citadel Council joined as the first expansion team in the Super League. And with that the league had changed forever.

As the Pro League continued to expand the Super League saw more teams join and leave each season. In 2023,when the Pro League expanded to its current size of 16 teams, a second promotion and relegation spot wasintroduced. Survival became that much more difficult and introduced some very exciting end of season survival battles between the bottom 4/5 teams. Often going to the last week, where every win could be enough to survive the drop. But similarly it allowed more expansions teams to play in the Super League, as well as giving previously relegated teams a chance to get back into the Super League. As of the 2037 season 30 of 32 major league teams have played in the Super League.

3037 Season

The expansion of the league has created every type of team archetype you can imagine. There are the yo-yo teams who frequently get relegated and promoted again every few seasons. There are the constant playoff contenders up at the top of the league, making the playoffs most seasons. Some teams just couldn't hack it in the Super League like the Rebel Alliance, who got relegated in 3019 and have not come back to the Super League since. New champions emerged such as the Citadel Council, the first expansion team to win the Super League, and the LEP Recon who frequent the playoffs most seasons now.

Starfleet have added to that original Super League title by winning four more, the most of any team. And apart from a brief 5 year stint in the Pro League, have been consistenly one of the top teams. The Capitol Gamemakers are joint second with four titles but the most playoff appearances 21 out of 37 seasons. The LEP Recon are the other team with four Championship wins, one of the most surprising things as an expansion teams. And due to this incredible success but only joining the league in the later years, they have the highest win percentage with .600 (972-648).
