NAME GAME... 8 IPA TEAMS HAVE NEW NICKNAMES
Most of us don't like change... thus, life pretty much stays the same... but the eight new owners in the Islandian Pro Alliance are game changers and they are happy with their new team nicknames... but there is the other side of the coin... some fans like 'em... and some fans are sad... but the fans don't always get their way... remember the "Golden Rule"... as they say, the guys with the gold makes the rules... and the IPA owners have the gold and plenty of it... and in many cases, they get their way.
So we must say a fond farewell and goodbye to the Glasco Athletics, LaGrange Sports, Elnora All-Stars, Stoner Stars, Cold Creek Catamounts, Rolling Hills Reds, Blue Lake Blue Sox and the Beechwood Blues... and hopefully welcome the brand new Glasco Foxhounds, LaGrange Gators, Elnora Clippers, Stoner Silver Sox, Cold Creek Raccoons, Rolling Hills Racers, Blue Lake Schooners and the Beechwood Jackrabbits... but the worst of it all, we will have to buy new jerseys, caps, jackets, knit shirts and jackets... but the memorabilia junkies will be in hog heaven with all their new apparel... but I'm sure some of the oldtimers will continue to wear their archaic and beloved wares to the games in protest, if they decide to begrudgingly buy into the name changes and continue to support the hometown team... all it will take for most fans will be to win a division championship or two or three... some of us may never forget... or perhaps... just perhaps, capture the ultimate reward for loyalty - the Holy Grail of Islandia - the IPA Pro Cup... the eternal flame of hope of the Boys of Summer and their fanatics burns forever... year after year... after year... and season after season... after season.
The more things change... the more they stay the same.
The Islandian Pro Alliance is getting ready for its 60th season... it begins at a diamond near you this Monday afternoon all around the Islands... 32 games will get started with the eternal and magical words we all cherish and love to hear:
"PLAY BALL".
