Well it's been that kind of season for the CliffMarkle Roadrunners. I exercised real restraint in not blowing the points I accumulated the last couple of weeks from achievements and selling off some players.
Even resisted spending the points when Charlie Gehringer bottomed out at about .180 mid-season on his batting average and my big sluggers Willie Stargell and Hank Greenberg also struggled.
So I see a 1901 94 rated Cy Young card on the auction house and sell of Mike Hampton to ensure I can afford him. I buy the Young card for 14,999 and throw him in the rotation to start right away, figuring with him and a 98 rated Steve Carlton I should be in good shape next season.
Well, good old Cy Young gets shelled for 8 runs in the first inning of his debut and manages to retire just one batter before Whitey Ford has to come on in relief.
Young's debut went like this: walk, single, single, double, single, single, triple, ground out (but the guy on third scored) and another single before he hit the showers for the night.
Since it's the end of the season in 2 games Young will finish the year with a nice 216.00 era.
Oh, and the loss officially eliminated us from a wild card berth and Carlton got hammered 7-1 the next day.
