April 30th, 1987
It is out last game in Chicago and the Cubs are throwing Jeff Robinson (2-1, 3.79) at us.
No, not that one. He is still with us.
The Giants are pitching Bryan Hickerson (1-0, 5.14).
None of us have faced Robinson.
This nonsense with he pitching revolving door means we are pitching a guy on short rest again. That hurt us yesterday. We'll see.
I opened the game by grounding out to Mike Brumley at short.
The Cubs started with a Marvell Wynne walk and a Juan Beniquez home run. I then got a Paul O'Neill grounder for the 1st out. I got a Mel Hall grounder for the 2nd out. But then Billy Hatcher scored on a Bo Diaz double.
Cubs lead 3-0
In the 2nd I came up with two out and Bobby Grich on 2nd. I grounded out to Beniquez at 3rd.
We got one back in the 3rd when Chili Davis scored on a Rob Deer double.
Cubs lead 3-1
In the bottom we got a nice Grich - Priske - Aldrete double play to get Beniquez and O'Neill. I then got a Hatcher grounder to finish it off.
I came up with one out in the 4th and struck out.
I next came up with two out in the 6th and struck out again.
Mark Davis subbed in for HIckerson in the 6th.
I came up in the 8th with two out and pinch hitter Jerry Mumphrey on 1st. Don August was pitching. He struck me out too.
Scott Garrelts took over on the mound for us after that. He got his three but we were not able to score int eh 9th and we had another loss.
I went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts.
Awful.
We slipped a half game behind the Reds.
Now we are off to Pittsburgh.
But not before Terry Mulholland and WIllei Fraser switched again. Stupidity.
