May 3rd, 1987
The Giants have Doyle Alexander (3-1, 3.51) facing Rick Rhoden (2-3, 6.68) and the Pirates.
After yesterday, I half expect to wear the first pitch of the game.
I have gone 3 for 10 vs Rhoden.
Rather than get hit, I got a hit on the first pitch of the game. Single to left.
I advanced to 2nd on a Mike Aldrete single. I stole 3rd (#21). Rob Deer doubled and I scored. Mike moved to 3rd. He ended up scoring on a Chris Brown groundout.
Giants lead 2-0
I got the first out of the bottom half, catching a Johnny Ray pop.
I came up in the 2nd with two out and Bob Brenly on 2nd. During my at bat there was a wild pitch, moving Bob to 3rd. I ended up grounding out to Rhoden.
I got the last out in the 3rd off a Ray grounder.
I came up with one out in the 5th and flew out to Kirk Gibson in left.
The Pirates got on the board in the 6th when Ray scared on a Don Baylor sac fly.
Giants lead 2-1
In the 7th I came up with two out and Bob on 2nd again. This time I dropped one into right for an RBI single! Stolen base #22. Mike walked. Rob walked, loading them up. Steve Stanicek singled and both Mike and I scored.
Giants lead 5-1
I came up in the 8th. Once again there was two out and Bob on 2nd, but this time Jerry Mumphrey was also on at 3rd. Aaron Carlie was pitching. I grounded out to Ray at 2nd.
In the 9th we got another run when Rob scored on a Chris Brown fielder's choice.
Giants lead 6-1
Dennis Eckersley came in to pitch the 9th, in a non-save situation. Three ground balls later the game was over.
I went 2 for 5 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.
I am hitting .292!
Tomorrow we start a two game set in St. Louis.
