I have to wipe my Mac's hard drive (again, because they "just work") but last time I was not able to restore the 100+ year game I backed up.

Can anyone please tell me how to take the backup of my current game and save it to an external disk so that I can restore it when I reinstall the game?

I have tried copying the backup folder to the desktop and then accessing that copied folder when doing a mock restore but that doesn't work. The only time I've been able to get it to work is when I go throught he default path of user/library/app support/ootp developments/ootp18/backups but that will not work once I wipe it again.
