With the first overall pick in the 1959 MLB draft, the Colorado Rockies selected Parker Bartczak, pitcher, out of San Diego State. Bartczak was drafted in the 1st round in 1956 out of High School but failed to sign. He has great velocity and three pitches.
The first high school draftee was also a pitcher - former Limestone Rocket Lewis Culver. If his changeup doesn't show up soon, he will become a bullpen arm.
Willy Silveyra was the first hitter drafted and the only hitter in the first 13 picks. He is a 3B at UNM with great potential at bat and in the field.
