The man many believe is the Brewers top minor league prospect, outfielder Jorge Gonzalez, got off to a bit of a slow start when he was promoted in mid-May from class A Bainbridge to AA Nashville, but he has been heating up since early June, and today he went 5 for 5 with 1 HR and 5 RBI in a win against the Hiram Whitecaps (San Francisco Velocity).
Gonzalez has the looks of a potentially premiere big league hitter as well as a plus defender in left field. The big question now surrounds his power potential, which the Brewers scouting staff sees as above average, and whether or at least when he will develop that part of his game.
Some look down the road and see a dominant Brewers outfield with Gonzalez in left, Joe McPhillips manning center, and Josh Schaeffer roaming right field in Centennial Stadium and at parks around the MGL.
