Brooklyn Citizens (Sarkis Canby, 1-0, 1.50) @ Montreal Impact (Ferdinand Loving, 0-1, 4.50) – Game 7, series tied 3-3
The pressure had to be on for the Impact – Montreal was a heavy favorite coming into their 2nd round matchup against the Citizens. They’ve stumbled – inconsistent play and a couple of bullpen collapses have been the culprit so far. But, Brooklyn deserves some credit too – they’ve played well and regardless of the result today have acquitted themselves well in the eyes of their fans. Today, though, was, unfortunately for their borough, not their day as Montreal gets the series win by a score of 4-2. Ferdinand was brilliant – he pitched to all but one batter over 8.2 and gave up only two runs. Montreal’s 2B Thiago Leyva went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and was named the series MVP for his efforts over the last 7 games - .462 avg, .517 OBP. Montreal manages to right the ship here just in time to make the trip to Los Angeles to meet my Lakers club in a 3rd round battle. We finished 3-4 against them during the regular season – so not the best case scenario for us, but we were without Otto for two of those losses so I like our chances.
Round 3 is all set with the class of the NL East and West representing their league, while two Wildcard teams managed to fight their way into the AL League Championship Series…
