Walkers news: April 23 -- St. Louis 8, Cedar Rapids 4

Record: 8-4, 1st, 1 GA Des Moines
St. Louis rookie shortstop Jean Carmona followed up his walk-off homer in an 2-1 win on Saturday night, with a big three-run shot in the eighth inning Sunday to help lift the River Walkers to an 8-4 win over Cedar Rapids at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the victory, St. Louis swept the three-game series with the Golden Grapplers and extended its win streak to five games.
Leading 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth, Nicky Delmonico led off with a double off Cedar Rapids reliever Joe Musgrove and later scored when Musgrove threw consecutive wild pitches.
St. Louis later got singles from Michael Toglia and J.T. Realmuto off Musgrove.
Carmona followed with his three-run homer, pretty much putting the game out of reach.
Earlier, St. Louis had ridden a three-run homer from Toglia, his first of the season, in the fourth to go up 3-1.
An RBI single from Andrew Benintendi in the seventh later made it 4-2.
Only to have Dominic Smith's second homer of the game, this one off reliever John Curtiss, bring the Golden Grapplers back to with 4-3.
St. Louis starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks worked into the sixth inning, going 5.1 altogether allowing two runs on four hits.
Jake Brentz (1.1 IP), Moronta (1.1)., Curtiss (0.2), Tony Cingrani (0.1) and Eduardo Jimenez (1.0) composed the parade of Walkers relievers who combined to finish off the sweep.
