Walkers news: April 26 -- Kansas City 3, St. Louis 2
Record: 8-7, 3rd, 1.5 GB Kansas City
Kansas City scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings to build a 3-0 lead, and held on for a 3-2 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the victory, the Pit Masters completed a three-game sweep of the River Walkers.
For the third consecutive game, the Masters tallied in the first inning.
Tyler Wade and Tyler Frank led off the game with consecutive singles off River Walkers starting pitcher Brendan Spagnuolo.
Brian Mundell would score Wade with a sacrifice fly.
In the third, Danny Cushing connected on a two-out homer off Spagnuolo.
The fifth saw pitcher Dinelson Lamet reached on a one-out single and later score on a Cushing single, also off Spagnuolo.
St. Louis scored twice in the sixth off reliever Kyle Nelson -- Jean Carmona drove in one with a sacrifice fly and J.T. Realmuto the other with a single - but Nelson got pinch-hitter Larry Ernesto to ground out with the bases loaded and end the inning.
The Walkers again would load the bases in the eighth, but David Berg got Jared Thomas to ground out to leave them all stranded.
Lamet turned in a strong performance, tossing 5.1 shutout innings. He gave up three hits while striking out five and walking two.
Six relievers combined to finish the game for the Masters.
Nelson (0.0 IP), Chance Adams (0.2), Andrew Ryan (1.0), Dario Alvarez (0.1), Berg (0.2) and Zach Burdi (1.0) handled those innings.
Burdi notched his third save.
