Walkers news: April 28 -- Cincinnati 6, St. Louis 4
Record: 8-8. 3rd, 2 GB Des Moines
Travis Swaggerty hit a two-run shot and Mike Trout a solo blast off St. Louis starting pitcher Aaron Nola in the top of the third inning to help spur Cincinnati to a 6-4 win over the River Walkers at Busch Stadium (1997).
St. Louis' Edmond Americaan would connect for a two-run homer off Skyline reliever Taylor Heard in the third to make it 3-2.
But Cincinnati would get a run in the fifth -- Cadyn Greiner double and later scoring on a passed ball by catcher J.T Realmuto -- and another one in the sixth -- Trent Grisham with a run-scoring single off Brad Hand -- to make it 5-2.
The Walkers would score twice in the eighth -- Bo Bichette led off the inning with a solo homer off Kirby Yates, and later pinch-hitter Jean Carmona would draw a bases loaded walk -- but with the bases still full Yates would get pinch-hitter Jared Thomas to fly out.
Leaving St. Louis still one run behind.
Yates allowed a one-out single to Bo Bichette in the ninth.
Micah Reed, however, came on to strike out Andrew Benitendi and Rhys Hoskins to earn his first save.
Cincincinati starter Yu Darvish had to depart with two outs in the second inning with an undisclosed injury.
Skyline would use eight pitchers over the following 7.1 innings.
Taylor Hearn (1.1 IP), Emilio Pagan (1.1), Jesus Lirazano (1.0), Yates (2.0) and Reed (0.2) carried the heaviest load.
The win was awarded to Heard (2-0).
