The St. Louis River Walkers have learned that right-handed relief pitcher Phil Maton could miss up to two weeks with a strained oblique and placed him on the 10-day disabled list.
Right-handed reliever Thad Ward has been called up from AAA Memphis.
Maton, 30, has pitched in 11 games this season putting together a record of 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He has worked a total of nine innings, during which he has struck out eight and posted a 0.67 WHIP.
At AAA, the 26-year-old Ward has served as closer for the Redbirds going 0-1 with three saves in five appearances. He has pitched six innings and struck out 12, and posted a 0.37 ERA.
