Clyde Boney Inducted into Hall of Fame
Wellington Athletics Sees Its First Player Honoured

Balmoral, Oxford, May 18 (BP) – He may have been a bridesmaid when it came to player awards, but there was no denying LHP Clyde Boney this year. After finishing with 64.9% of the vote in 1950, the 41-year old Boney earned induction into the Braeland Hall of Fame on his second try, picking up 77.6% of the votes in total. The 12-year veteran, who hails from Pulberry, Oxford, is the fourth pitcher to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and 9th player overall.

Boney’s election marks a milestone for the Hall of Fame, as he is first player to be inducted solely by the Baseball Reporters Association of Braeland (BRAB), as the six-member Hall of Fame panel was dissolved after the 1949 selection process. He is also the first player to be inducted into the new Braeland Museum and Baseball Hall of Fame in Balmoral. Previous ceremonies were held at Gilbert Hall on the adjacent King Hugh University campus.

Although he did not win a Satchel Paige Award as his League’s best pitcher, he came close twice, finishing as runner-up to RHP Colm Soper in 1937-38 and RHP Lenny Freke in 1939-40. Interestingly, all three pitchers are the same age (41) and both Soper and Freke are still pitching – out of the bullpen with the Queensland Eagles.

But Clyde Boney was no stranger to the yearly Leaderboards. Having played almost exclusively in the Eastern League his entire career, he led the League in Wins twice, Winning % twice, Strikeouts three times, BABIP twice, WHIP twice, RA/9 twice, H/9 four times, K/9 twice and Shutouts three times. Listed below are some his other accomplishments as well as the results of the Hall of Fame voting.
