Edmond Americaan scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning to help St. Louis edge Madison 3-2 at Busch Stadium.
Americaan had reached on a one-out single off reliever Carlos Carrasco.
He moved to second on a Michael Toglia single off Billy McKay, and Americaan reached third when Andrew Benintendi grounded out for the inning's second out.
With Rhys Hoskins at the plate, McKay's second pitch got past catcher M.J. Melendez allowing Americaan to score.
Down 2-1, the River Walkers had tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Nicky Delmonico homer off Brusdar Graterol.
River Walkers starter Kyle Hendricks allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Jake Brentz handled the eighth inning and earned his fourth win.
Tommy Kahnle pitched around a walk in the ninth for his eighth save.
