MBL news: Des Moines completes sweep of Chicago
The Des Moines Harvesters scored three runs in the first and third innings to help lift them to a 6-4 win over the Chicago G-Men and a three-game sweep of the National League championship series.
The victory was a bit of a surprise for Harvesters, who have won the World Series in 2020 and 2022, who had trailed Chicago by three games (100-62 to 97-65) in the race for home-field advantage in the NL.
Thairo Estrada provided the big blow of the three-run first with a two-run homer off G-Men starter Luis Noguera.
Chicago had pulled to within 3-2 by the bottom of the third, but the Harvesters put up their second three-run inning.
Kahlil Lee had an RBI triple off Noguera and later scored.
Jose Berrios handled the first five innings on the mound for the Harvesters, allowing a pair of runs.
Jandel Gustave struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.
John Lehto was named series MVP after batting .500 with three runs scored and an RBI.
With the victory, Des Moines advances into the World Series for the third time in four seasons.
The Harvesters will face Cincinnati, who took down Grand Rapids in four games to win the American League title.
The Skyline will own home-field advantage after going 107-55 in the regular season.
