Walkers news: April 28 -- St. Louis 3, Kansas City 1
Record: 11-14, 4th, 5.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Alex Faedo worked the opening 5.1 innings and he combined with three relievers to limit Kansas City to a single run as St. Louis downed the Pit Masters 3-1 at Kansas Municipal Stadium (1969).
Scoreless though three innings, Andrew Benintendi put St. Louis in front with a solo homer off Pit Masters starter Johnny Kuhn Jr. in the top of the fourth inning.
The River Walkers increased their lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Bo Bichette singled off Kuhn to score Romy Gonzalez.
Gonzalez had been hit by a Kuhn Jr. pitch to open the fifth.
With the bases loaded, the Masters' Addison Barger doubled off Faedo in sixth, scoring Travis Blankenhorn and make it 2-1.
There would be only one more run scored in the game - and it belonged to the Walkers in the seventh.
Alex Thomas led off with a double off reliever Kyle Nelson.
A bunt by Jean Carmona moved Thomas to third.
Rhys Hoskins' two-run single made it 3-1.
Faedo alowed one run on three hits in his 5.1 innings. He struck out four and walked none.
Brad Hand finished the sixth and worked a silent seventh.
Kenley Jansen got the first out of the eighth.
The rest of the game belonged to Jake Brentz, who recorded five innings while allowing just one hit.
