Hyannis’ Victor Concepcion was named Pitcher of the Year after going 4-1 with a 1.70 ERA and 60 Ks in 57.1 innings of work. Reliever of the Year went to Cotcuit’s Josh Ellis for his 2-1, 1.31 ERA, 35 K season. And it was Falmouth’s Yolbert Sanchez who took home MVP. The Yale junior hit .335 and no home runs in his award-winning season.

There was nothing notable about the season. Literally nothing was added to the Accomplishments tabs.

After falling to the Braves in five last season, the Indians finally broke the cure of Rocky Colavito and won their first World Series since 1948. They beat the Mets, although they needed seven games to do it.

Mike Ford (Detroit- .285, 19 HR) collected the AL Rookie of the Year while Taylor Trammell (Cincinnati- .309, 28 HR) collected the NL Award. For his efforts in taking them to the Fall Classic, Shane Bieber (Cleveland- 19-2, 3.10 ERA, 175 Ks) received the AL Cy Young. However, his numbers paled in comparison to those of Jacob deGrom (26-0 (in 33 starts), 1.73 ERA, 245 Ks). He led the Mets to the World Series, going 3-0 in 5 starts along the way. However it would be Manny Machado (San Diego- .333, 40 HR) who would take home NL MVP. Mike Trout (Los Angeles- .317, 39 HR) retained the AL title and marked the fourth of his career.

More than a few players played their final game in 2020: Jim Adduci, Ian Desmond, Chris Hatcher, Ryan Feierabend, Cole Hamels, Jared Hughes, Tommy Layne, Russell Martin, Kurt Suzuki, Adam Wainwright, Steven Wright, Ben Zobrist, Miguel Cabrera

And a few more found new homes (data collected on December 31st):
Via trade:
-Zack Godley is a National
-Steve Pearce is a White Sock… again (He was traded to the Twins, who then traded him back to the White Sox)
-Hunter Renfroe is a Giant

Via Free Agency:
-Trevor Bauer is a Tiger
-Mookie Betts is a Met
-DJ LeMahieu is a Cardinal

No-one entered the Hall of Fame.

Notably, Justin Verlander passed 3000 strikeouts while Clayton Kershaw surpassed 2500. Before retiring, Miggy hit his 500th home run while Edwin Encarnacion and Giancarlo hit 400 as Mike Trout, Evan Longoria and Joey Votto passed 300.

Draft Watch
2019’s top pick Adley Rutschman played 125 games across High-A, Double-A and the MLB. He finished the year hitting .305 with 13 home runs and a .825 OPS. Behind the plate, he wasn’t spectacular and finished the year with a .868 defensive efficiency.

2020’s first overall was SS Cooper Swanson out of Florida State. Taken by, you guessed it, the Orioles, Swanson played 29 games for their Gulf League affiliate and hit .228 with 2 home runs. The first CMSL player to be taken was catcher Ranis Silva in the 14th round, but he failed to sign with the Astros.

The 2021 season will be published on on October 3rd.
