2078 Season (5/23 – 5/25)
Phoenix Suns (28-15, .636, 1st NL West) @ Los Angeles Kings (23-19, .548, 2nd NL West)
I arrived at the airport a few hours before the team to enjoy my customary pre-flight double-shot Bloody Mary and guzzled it down while I poured over box scores and waited for everyone to arrive. When they didn’t arrive, I ordered a second and began to skim the headlines in the financial section when my ritual was interrupted by a text message. It seems that my head scout, Zahur Peterson, was about to begin his pre-series scouting report presentation and wondered where I was - from what I gather here, we are, in fact, not traveling to Phoenix for this set and instead will contest the games at our park. That’s embarrassing. So, then, three more days in LA where I alternate my time between running a baseball club and dodging my landlord - it seems that my rent is overdue if her voicemails are to be believed... it could be harrowing given that the Suns, our nemesis, is in town. And, it should be noted that they are the early-season class of the NL West, playing great baseball with lights out stuff from their starting five (3rd NL West), dogged determination at the plate (1st in AVG, OBP, and OPS), and are the purveyors of a perpetual run-scoring machine (1st in Runs Scored) that often instills fear in the hearts of the sturdiest men.
Scores:
43 of 162 – Loss, 2-8. Our starter, Aiden Jensen, faltered and allowed 5 earned in only 6.2 innings of work – he also handed out 3 free passes. We never got going in this one & they never let up.
44 of 162 – Win, 4-3. Brisky was serviceable and managed to leave us in a position to get a win and PH Mikah Sellers, in only his 2nd AB of the season hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th to walk-off the Suns. Always a satisfying way to get a win against these guys.
45 of 162 – Win, 5-3. Dotson was effective, Rad Taylor gave us 2 scoreless innings in relief, and Barbaccia earned his 15th save… 2 RBIs for Skinny-O, SAC FLY for Rajkumar, and McTaggart swiped his 12th bag. A good effort from the club today.
Notes: Otto is, after that last game, listed as DtD with a knee contusion – I’m convinced that, with some meat on his bones, that never happens. In NCAA news, the final four is set – Binghamton will face East Carolina & Polk Community College will face the LSU Tigers… Megan’s San Marcos Supremos continue to tread water and are now 3rd in the BL Justice Division with a record of 11-12. She continues to try to gain her footing as a GM – she’ll get there, I have faith… And, lastly, I haven’t heard from Foggy – at least I don’t think I have – I did get a postcard in my PO Box with a link and a smiley face written on the back. When I looked it up it brought me to an Instagram pic of a woman enjoying a pina colada on the beach taken from behind. No mention of me sending more money in the frame, so, I’m assuming the picture is not her and instead was sent to me by mistake. Oh, and we're traveling to Pittsburgh next for a 4-game series - this time, when I arrive at the airport, it'll be about more than a double-shot bloody mary and embarrassment - so, I have that going for me.
