Try deleting the all the player pictures in the \graphics\player_pics folder of your save, then, before reloading it, on the Start Screen switch the Current Skin (in Settings-Interface) from "dark" to "fhm", exit, restart, switch it back to "dark", then restart again. We're still not sure exactly what's causing this (it seems to happen about in about 5% of new saves, more of some people), but that's worked to fix it for a few people.
